Revlon Colorstay, so I normally don’t wear much foundation but I really wanted to give it a try. I chose this one because of the online hype I’ve read. I really like that it really does stay on for a long period of time, I tried it this whole week during my 9hr work shifts and it held up. I was scared it was going to melt off my face…pretty good deal and for around $12 dollars I was going to complain. One of the drawbacks from this though is the smell. It smells like paint! Which kind of freaks me out( what the heck am I putting on my face). Weird.

I finally found the perfect organizer for my make-up and brushes, and it was at Target for $7.99! I almost got the small three stacked drawer that Rocky had, which looks really convenient also. But since I’m always going back and forth from different houses, I needed a travel friendly organizer and this totally fit the bill! I love it! All my make-up and brushes are organized and travel ready! Thanks to the girly day at Target with Rocky & Christina!

Kat Von D's Painted Love Lipstick in "Hellbent"

Hello all! I don’t usually wear lipstick, and if I do it’s normally a nude color. I decided to move onto new territory with a red shade. I went on a Sephora trip with Rocky and she helped me find two shades that I simply loved. One was called Stiletto, which is a bright orangey red and the other is Hellbent which is a “blood red”—the make-up line’s words not mine haha. I purchased “Hellbent” and I love it! I’ve only worn it one day, but so far it’s been pretty good at lasting through a lunch and short work day. It is a bit drying, but that may just be me because I tend to have dry lips and apply chapstick numerous times a day. I simply wore some chapstick over it to remedy the dryness.

Onto the packaging. While it is cute with the tattoo rose pattern, the clear plastic bottom did crack. I had to exchange the first one I bought b/c it was cracked right out of the box, but now my new one is cracking so I may have to exchange it once again. It seems to be very fragile :/

All in all, it’s a good lipstick and is definitely motivating me to try more! The small range of shades is very flattering, considering that I fell in love with the first and only 2 shades I tried. I’d say Kat Von D’s color choices are right on the money. They are also very saturated. I highly recommend you give it a try if you find yourself in her section :) I’d rate this product 4/5, even though I’ve only had it one day haha.

So lately I’ve been watching a lot of Clothes Encounters’ videos. They have a great range of topics, from thrifting hauls and tips to hair and make-up tutorials. It consisted of two girls (Jenn and Sarah) but recently has become just one of them. Their entire channel is still as good as ever and worth watching, but this particular video shows you how to master a nice day time smokey eye (even if you’re not blessed with a crease like Dana!) These videos have really inspired me to get back into wearing and experimenting with eyeshadows and lipstick (hence the spontaneous target and sephora trip today with Raquel.)

Aztec Secret, Indian Healing Clay ” World’s Most Powerful Facial “

100% Natural Calcium Bentonite Clay.

You can pick this stuff up at a local Sprouts or order it online. Relatively cheap. I think I got it for about 6 bucks. Use it once a week and your good.

Feel your face pulsate is what it says it will do and it does. I actually really like this stuff, I feel like it really cleans out your pores and makes your skin super soft after. The only downfall of this product is that its a make it yourself mask and it causes some redness right after(will go away within 30min). I have tried making this clay with both water and Raw Apple Cider vinegar. I prefer the vinegar even thought it smells funky. Make sure when removing it to do so in the shower and try to break down the clay chunks as much as possible before letting it go down the drain.

Been using The Brush Guards to dry my brushes after I wash them. They’re amazing. Protects the bristles and holds the bristles down while drying, keeping the bristles back in shape. You wouldn’t want water to run back into the handle. They help keep my brushes like new everytime! :)

PAY-LESS Shoes. Literally, I got all of these 4 pairs of shoes from Payless. I printed a 20% off coupon from the net that you can use for this month and went on a shopping spree. Luckily these shoes are not to bad of a price to begin with. Received these 4 pairs for about $82, not nearly as bad as paying for one pair of shoes at that price!

So, I’m going to invest in a heat styling product since I always blow dry my hair (if I don’t, it takes 90 min or more to dry completely). I found this list to be very helpful and will be purchasing and trying Redken’s Satinwear 02 Ultimate Blow-dry Lotion. I’ll let you know what the results are! Hope it’s worth it!

So I am not sure how great this is for you, but it works for me! When I feel like my lips are chapped I exfoliate them with sugar and finish off with a little olive oil or almond oil (I hear is good too).

Lick your finger and put a dab of sugar and rub around lips in a circular motion. It will make your lips look plumper with color too. Now ain’t that sweet…

If there’s one thing that I’m sad to say I’m afraid of; it’s color. I know, I know, please don’t question my degree in graphic design. Sure, in theory, color is fucking rad. But let’s be real… we all have that color that makes us look fat, washes us out, or makes us feel just plain nasty. So what do we do? We resort to our ‘comfort color’. Self explanatory. My closet is filled with black (though I’m still convinced that black is chic, never going out of style, and really does look best.. GO TEAM BLACK). But I finally decided.. with baby steps, I can progress in the right direction.

Thus, my first blog contribution is born.

Last night, as I was getting ready, I sat down to do my nail polish first. I went for a salmon color (which the top left picture didn’t really capture). Then, I thoughtlessly drudged onto my makeup. A night out in LA called for something dramatic. So, I started with a brown base on my eyelid, and built up some color. I added a metallic blue from Kat Von D’s pallete (Thanks Raquel!) to the inner part of my eyelid and underneath as eyeliner.

Common misconception #1: Your makeup has to match your nails which has to match your outfit which has to match your shoes, and of course, your bag. While I’m all for the matchy look on certain occasions (IE Kentucky Derby’s), it can be so boring! Spice it up. Live a little. (Says the girl that wears all black). IMPORTANT NOTE: The overall result should not look like your closet threw up on you. Pick a focal point. If you want your eyes to be super colorful, don’t overdo it with a bold lip and tribal print dress. Or do, for those of you that like the hooker look. (It seriously works for some people).

Coming from someone who has been pretending to do instructional videos in front of a mirror before it was the cool thing to do (cough 2001), you can always ask me makeup advice. Yes, I do realize that it seems ironic that someone who rarely does her own makeup would be dishing advice, but I promise, I could tell you almost anything about the stuff. For example..

Makeup Tip: Seems kind of gross, but once you have a good base down (mine was a dark brown), take the tip of your eyeshadow brush and wet it with your spit (or water for you sanitary freaks). Dip the brush in a bold color (metallics work great!) and dab onto your eyelid in the preferred area. (In my picture it was my inner eyelid). This will make the pigment stick and give you a dramatic bold look, if done right. I blended mine out with the brown so I didn’t look like a chola, but to each their own.

This is my first attempt trying an organic cleanser. Started off with a trip to Target with Rocky, which is my wallet’s worse nightmare…I always end up spending way to much at the lovely tar-jae. I bought two different cleansers one for the morning and one for night, and just because I was anxious to try the two. Both from the same brand but with different ingredients.

Main Line: Boots, a UK brand now featured at Target

1. Skin Brightening Deep Clean Gel for Normal/Oily Skin - Boots, The Power of Botanics $6.99

It’s basically a gel cleanser, that really does feel like it takes off the stubborn make-up, impurities and pore clogging oil. Packed with hibiscus and horsechestnut extract, it will leave your skin balanced, purified and perfectly clean. perfect for oily skin.
Dermatologically tested….basically everything that it says on the website.

My personal review: I like the gel formula and the way it suds up, you really don’t need a lot at all. After my first use last night, I used too much so my skin ended up feeling a little dry but this morning I used less and felt much better. I really wouldn’t recommend it for those that have dry skin.

2. Organic Face Nourshing Cleanser- Boots, The Power of Botanics $7.99

This gentle and non drying cleanser sweeps away make up and impurities leaving skin feeling radiant and healthy. 80% Organic.

Glycerin helps to retain the skin’s moisture levels while Olive Oil nourishes and moisturises the skin. With Natural organic fragrance of orange and rose geranium essential oils.

My personal review: I was a bit excited about trying this one out because of it’s olive oil, organic substances. But this is not something you should get if you like the squeaky, clean feeling. You basically just sweep it over face and neck morning and evening using cotton wool. Then wiping it off gently. My first reaction ah, I need to rinse this off because it feels like you have a moisturizer on and that it’s not really cleaning your skin. It gives off a slight tingling feeling, but I am not sure what that is or if that’s normal. Perhaps that’s a sign that it’s working it’s cleansing magic. But yes it feels like a moisturizer, I chose this for my morning routine since I don’t like to wash my face with a deep cleaner unless I am in the shower or have done some sweat work to my skin haha. It recommends using a toner afterward. Anyhow, I like the fact that its a natural, organic product but I wouldn’t recommend it just yet. I will give it a couple more days and see how I warm up to it.

It wasn’t until my college years that I discovered the magic of using blush to sculpt my face and add some nice color to my complexion. If you also happen to have a rounded face/chubby cheeks like mine, it helps give a nice shape. My favorite brand to use is Clinique’s Blushing Blush Powder Blush (could they use the word blush any more?). Anyway, I’ve tried 3 different colors and loved them all. I received Cupid (a shy pale dusty pink) which actually brightened my complexion, and once I ran out of that I purchased Smoldering Plum (a heathered purple). My latest purchase is pictured below, which is Sunset Glow (A mid tone reddish bronze). This has become an instant favorite, and comes close to NARS’ famous Orgasm shade, but it’s only $20. What I especially love is that it doesn’t take much of the product to obtain great color so it lasts a really long time (2 years almost). The color also stays put on my cheeks all day, which is great for someone with dry cheeks like me. In summary, if you’re in the market for a new blush try Clinique’s BBPB :)
